Ka Moon’s Story
Ka Moon arrived here in May 2017. Her name is an old Thai name for a lady. Ka Moon is typical of a lot of old elephants who still work in tourism and are unsuited to task at hand. It took us quite a while to negotiate to bring her here.
Her development has been slow but steady, much like Thong Inn, but we are proud with the progress she has made. It took her longer than normal to make friends with the other elephants and for the first few months she just wanted to eat grass by herself and scratch on trees. Now she is firm friends with all the elephants and in particular May Noi.
Ka Moon can be at times a nervous female elephant and our care is centered around allowing the peace and quiet she needs to re engage with her natural environment. She has lived at our second larger site since November 2019 and our goal for her is that she can become a teacher and guide for other elephants that will move to this site.
She is a very cool elephant and we are incredibly grateful to her owners for bringing her here.
A visit to Thailand is not complete without meeting Ka Moon and learning about the positive and negative aspects in which tourism can influence the care of Thailands National Animal.
